On the evening of September 26, 2022, in the small city of Elba, Alabama, the life of 18-year-old Jordon Xavier Marek, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short. A senior at Elba High School, Jordon was well-liked and known as a good student and athlete. The community was shaken when police responded to a call about a vehicle that had crashed into a home on Sunset Boulevard. First responders discovered that the driver, Jordon, was suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a nearby medical center, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Jordon's death quickly became a homicide case. The Elba Police Department, with assistance from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The news of the violent death of a promising high school senior sent ripples of grief and shock throughout the close-knit community. Friends and family remembered Jordon for his kind and silly personality, his caring nature, and his love of laughter.
Within days, the investigation led to an arrest. On September 29, 2022, authorities took 21-year-old Terrence De'Shun Green of Elba into custody. He was charged with murder and theft of property in connection with Jordon's death. The investigation continued, and soon after, a second suspect was apprehended. The second individual arrested was Terrence Green's brother, 22-year-old DaQuann Green of Daleville, who faced the same charges of murder and theft of property.
As the legal process began, both Terrence and DaQuann Green were held in custody. In August of the following year, a judge denied a request for a bond reduction for DaQuann Green, and he remained incarcerated. The community continues to mourn the loss of a young life full of potential as they await the full resolution of the criminal proceedings against the two brothers charged in his death.
