At the Foxwood Village Apartments in Andalusia, Alabama, on the evening of October 19, 2022, the life of 22-year-old Treyvous Cobbins was cut short. Responding to a call of shots fired at roughly 9:15 p.m., Andalusia Police Department officers discovered Cobbins inside his vehicle, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was rushed to Andalusia Health and later transferred to a trauma center in Florida, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the death of Treyvous Cobbins, a male resident of Evergreen, quickly evolved into a multi-state manhunt for five suspects. Over the next several months, law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, worked to track down those believed to be responsible. One of the suspects, Teddy Donnell Cozart, 20, was apprehended in Indiana during a routine traffic stop for speeding. Another suspect, 19-year-old Alyssa Jewel Stewart, was found hiding in a home in Lima, Ohio, and taken into custody without incident.
In addition to Cozart and Stewart, three other individuals were arrested and charged with murder in connection with Cobbins's death: Derrick Demetrius Thomas Jr., 20; Le'Morion Lorenzo Fantroy, 20; and Siyonesty Marchalle Gill, 19. All five suspects are being held without bond in the Covington County Jail under Aniah's Law, a legal provision in Alabama that allows judges to deny bail for individuals accused of violent crimes.
While the Andalusia Police Department has not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting, the arrests of all known suspects marked a significant turning point in the investigation. The case is now set to move through the judicial system, where the full story of the events that led to the tragic death of Treyvous Cobbins may come to light. The legal proceedings for the five individuals charged with his murder are pending in Covington County.
