In a tragic turn of events stemming from what authorities have described as a love triangle, 60-year-old Tony Rudolph Dean of Westville, Florida, was fatally shot on Thursday, January 12, 2023. The incident unfolded in Geneva County, outside of Samson, Alabama, amidst severe weather that complicated rescue efforts and the subsequent crime scene investigation.
Dean had reportedly driven to the property of Jason Kersey, a 6-year-old from Geneva County, to see his estranged girlfriend, who was then in a relationship with Kersey. An altercation ensued, during which Kersey allegedly shot Dean twice with a. 38 caliber handgun.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Dean succumbed to his injuries.
Following an investigation that included witness statements, Jason Kersey was taken into custody as a suspect in the deadly shooting. During his initial court appearance, Geneva County District Judge Stephen Smith ordered Kersey to be held on a $750,000 bond.
