In the late hours of a Friday evening in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, a dispute between two men escalated into a fatal encounter. On August 18, 2023, 32-year-old Sherod Lanell Parris, a male, was shot and killed at the Camelot Apartments on Black Bears Way. Police were called to the scene around 10:30 p.m. and found Parris deceased from gunshot wounds. The events that transpired that night cut short a young life and led to a swift investigation by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.
Witnesses
and evidence gathered at the scene quickly pointed investigators toward a suspect: 40-year-old Charles Darron Richardson. It appeared that an argument between Parris and Richardson had preceded the deadly shooting. Richardson was already a wanted man, with outstanding warrants for receiving stolen property. This prior criminal history added another layer to the investigation as law enforcement began their search for him.
The manhunt for Richardson involved a coordinated effort between the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force. Their search concluded early the next morning when Richardson was located and taken into custody. Following his arrest, he was charged with murder. Due to a pre-existing felony conviction, Richardson was also charged with being a certain person prohibited from possessing a firearm. He was subsequently booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail and, under Aniah's Law, was denied bond.
