In the late summer evening of August 26, 2023, in the Sunflower area of Washington County, Alabama, a family argument over a woman escalated into a tragic and fatal encounter. Titus Daquan Parnell, a 19-year-old male, was shot and killed during the dispute. When law enforcement authorities arrived at the residence on Highway 43 at approximately 9:30 p.m., they found Parnell deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting identified Titus Parnell's uncle, Josh Parnell, as the
individual who fired the fatal shot. According to lawmen, the altercation that led to the shooting stemmed from an argument concerning a woman. The Washington County Sheriff's Office has been investigating the incident as a matter of self-defense. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Josh Parnell was not charged with any crime. The case was slated to be presented to a grand jury for further review. Hundreds of red and white balloons were released in memory of Titus Parnell at a gathering of family and friends in Wagarville following the tragic event. The community has come together to support the Parnell family in the wake of their loss.
