In the small city of Aliceville, Alabama, a life was tragically cut short on a Saturday night in September. Kenny Ray Brown Jr., a 30-year-old male, was fatally shot on September 23, 2023, at the Tilley Hamlet apartment complex located on Highway 14. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered Brown deceased. Another individual was also wounded in the shooting and was transported for medical treatment.
The investigation into the shooting was a collaborative effort between
the Aliceville Police Department and the Pickens County Sheriff's Office. Their joint investigation swiftly led to the identification of a suspect. Just two days after the fatal shooting, on a Monday, authorities arrested 21-year-old Markevion Rice.
Following his arrest, Markevion Rice was charged with murder in connection with the death of Kenny Ray Brown Jr. He was subsequently booked into the Pickens County Jail. A judge set his bond at a significant $2 million. While an arrest has been made, authorities have indicated that the investigation remains active and that additional charges could be forthcoming. District Attorney Andy Hamlin expressed a commitment to ensuring justice for Mr. Brown and his family.
