In the quiet community of Rutledge, Alabama, a late-night call on a Wednesday shattered the peace and forever altered the lives of a local family. Just before midnight, the Crenshaw County Sheriff's Office received a report of a shooting and dispatched deputies to a residence in the 1000 block of South Moody Crossroads.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered a grim scene.
Inside the home, they found 59-year-old Elizabeth Ann Holladay, a white female, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the swift arrival of Luverne Rescue, her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene. In the initial moments of the investigation, deputies were able to quickly detain a possible suspect who was also present at the residence.
As criminal investigators from the Crenshaw County Sheriff's Office began to process the scene and conduct interviews, a suspect emerged from within Holladay's own family. Based on their preliminary findings, authorities arrested Elizabeth's 61-year-old husband, Joe David Holladay. He was subsequently charged with the murder of his wife. While the investigation is ongoing, the initial arrest points to a tragic case of domestic violence that ended in the untimely death of Elizabeth Ann Holladay.
