Death by Force

On the night of September 5, 2024, Auburn Police officers conducted a welfare check at the Payne Street residence of Dr. William C. Neely, 92, and his wife, Mrs. Betty T. Neely, 88. Upon entry, authorities discovered both individuals deceased, each with a single gunshot wound. A handgun was recovered at the scene, and investigators noted the absence of forced entry, indicating no signs of an external intruder.
