A 73-year-old white male from Eagle River, Wisconsin, traveled to Alaska in the summer of 2014 and stayed in touch with family until early August, when relatives last heard from him during a visit in Wasilla. His movements were traced to Fairbanks soon after; he returned a rental car at the airport and then dropped out of contact, prompting a missing-person search that stretched through the winter.
