In the early hours of June 9, 2021, Anchorage Police Department (APD) officers responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of East 12th Avenue and Hyder Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 25-year-old Dvonte Castro deceased at the scene. An adult female was also found injured and was transported to a hospital; her condition was not disclosed at the time.
