On September 11, 2021, 74-year-old Michael J. Easley of Wasilla, Alaska, tragically lost his life during a moose hunting expedition near Chicken, Alaska. Easley, accompanied by his son Kevin and fellow hunter Robert Geller, was approximately 8.5 miles off the Taylor Highway when the incident occurred. As darkness fell, Easley ventured toward a valley where he had previously shot a moose, while Kevin and Geller remained on a rocky perch, calling for moose.
