Sergeant Oliver S. Gunnels, a 62-year-old veteran of the Greenville Police Department, tragically lost his life on February 17, 1911, while performing his duties. Gunnels, who had served the department for 26 years, was investigating a suspicious individual at the railroad station located at Augusta and Vardry Streets in Greenville, South Carolina.
