The argument, which took place around 1:45 a.m. in the 1900 block of 4th Street, escalated tragically when the other individual involved got into a vehicle and intentionally struck Olaya. The male driver then fled the scene, leaving Olaya with life-threatening injuries.
Emergency services transported Olaya, a resident of Bowie,
Maryland, to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away the following day, on February 6, 2019. Those who knew him remembered Olaya as a graduate of Bowie High School who had trained as a sound engineer and was skilled at creating 'beats' for rap music.
The Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Olaya's death. Their efforts led to the arrest of 36-year-old Morris Kenya Harley on February 19, 2019. Harley was subsequently charged with first-degree murder while armed in connection with the intentional hit-and-run that claimed Daniel Olaya's life.
