The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at approximately 9:52 p.m. in the 3300 block of D Street, Southeast. When officers from the Sixth District arrived at the scene after reports of gunshots, they discovered a chaotic and tragic situation.
Responding to the sounds of violence, police first located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound.
As they continued to canvass the area, they found a second man, Dajuan Hart, who was unconscious and also suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene and transported the first victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Hart, however, showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
In the days following the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation into Hart's death.
