In the early evening of April 27, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Center Point neighborhood, leaving a man dead and a community searching for answers. Dexter Antonio Buchanan, a 36-year-old Black male, was the victim of this sudden and brutal act of violence. The incident unfolded at approximately 6:50 p.m. in the 400 block of 16th Court NW.
Buchanan had just arrived at the location and was getting out of his vehicle when a white four-door Mercedes pulled up. Four to five masked individuals exited the car and immediately opened fire on him. Buchanan was struck multiple times by the barrage of bullets. The assailants then quickly got back into their vehicle and fled the scene, leaving chaos and tragedy in their wake.
When deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office arrived, they found Buchanan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The shooters vanished without a trace, and their identities remain unknown.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Dexter Antonio Buchanan. The case remains an open and active investigation, with law enforcement seeking any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the individuals responsible for this brazen killing. A reward has been offered for tips that lead to an arrest.
