On May 27, 2023, at approximately 5:15 PM, 21-year-old JerrMarius Deonta Sills, known professionally as rapper Li Heat, was ambushed while walking in the 1500 block of Avenue L in Birmingham, Alabama. Multiple assailants approached him and fired over 20 shots, striking him multiple times. Birmingham Police Department officers responded to the scene and found Sills suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he remained in critical condition.
