Multiple suspects ambushed him, unleashing a barrage of approximately 20 gunshots. The sheer number of rounds fired suggested a premeditated and aggressive assault, leaving the young man with life-threatening injuries on that fateful Saturday evening.

transported Sills to UAB Hospital. For more than a month, he fought for his life, clinging to the hope of recovery. However, the severity of his wounds proved to be insurmountable, and on July 7, 2023, JerrMarius Deonta Sills succumbed to his injuries. His passing sent ripples of grief through his family, friends, and the community that knew him not just by his given name, but also by his rap alias, 'Li Heat.'
In the wake of his death, those who knew him gathered to remember the man they described as fun, outgoing, and humble. At a poignant vigil held at George Ward Park, friends and family released balloons into the sky, a final tribute to a life cut short by what his older brother, Lamarcus, called senseless violence. The Birmingham Police Department is actively investigating the case as a homicide.
