In January 2023, 33-year-old Anthony Don Mitchell of Carbon Hill, Alabama, was arrested and detained at the Walker County Jail in Jasper. Mitchell, who had a history of drug addiction, was taken into custody on January 12 after a family member requested a welfare check due to his erratic behavior.
