On September 14, 2023, 29-year-old William Cody Vaughn of Blountsville, Alabama, died following an incident in the Highland Lake area. According to the Blount County Sheriff's Office, deputies were responding to multiple reports of attempted break-ins in the Sugar Land Lake vicinity. Vaughn was identified as the suspect in these incidents.
