In the late summer heat of Oneonta, Alabama, a heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded, claiming the life of two-year-old Ian Wiesman. The young boy, a male, died on a Tuesday in September after being left unattended for approximately seven hours inside a vehicle. The cause of his death was determined to be from prolonged exposure to the high temperatures inside the truck.
The devastating series of events began on the morning of September 20, 2022, when Ian's grandfather, 56-year-old William 'Bill' Wiesman, picked him up. It is believed that the grandfather was supposed to take the child to daycare. However, in a tragic lapse of memory, he went to his place of work, leaving Ian strapped in his car seat in the back of the truck. Throughout the day, as temperatures soared, the grandfather reportedly returned to his vehicle on three separate occasions without noticing the child was still inside.
The grim discovery was made later that afternoon when family members went to the daycare and learned that Ian had never been dropped off. They found the little boy unresponsive in his grandfather's truck in the daycare's parking lot. The authorities were immediately alerted, but it was too late.
In the wake of the tragedy, William Wiesman was taken into custody and subsequently faced charges for his grandson's death. The Blount County District Attorney announced that he was being charged with reckless manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.
