In the early morning hours of November 20, 2014, in Oneonta, Alabama, a domestic disturbance escalated into a fatal encounter, ending the life of 28-year-old Clint Alan Myrick. Myrick, a graduate of Susan Moore High School who worked in the construction industry, was shot and killed by his girlfriend, Meagan Bullard Collins.
Collins, who was 29 at the time, called 911 to report a burglary in progress at her home. She informed authorities that she and Myrick were in a relationship but did not live together, and that she had recently made him leave her residence. According to Collins, Myrick later returned to her home armed with a baseball bat. She claimed that in response, she armed herself with a shotgun, fired a warning shot, and then fired a second time, striking Myrick in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:37 a.m.
However, investigators were skeptical of Collins's account of the events, with law enforcement sources suggesting that the scene may have been staged. They believed the shooting did not happen in the manner she described and kept the possibility of other individuals being involved under active investigation.
Ultimately, Meagan Bullard Collins pleaded guilty to manslaughter in December 2018. The Blount County District Attorney stated that the plea agreement was discussed with Clint Myrick's family. Following her guilty plea, Collins, a mother of two, was sentenced to 15 years and six months in prison for her role in the death of her boyfriend.
