On November 14, 2022, 32-year-old Kenneth Earl Ray II was fatally assaulted at the William Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office reported that Ray sustained sharp force injuries during an attack by another inmate around 2:40 p.m. Despite being transported to the prison infirmary, he was pronounced dead at 3:05 p.m.
