In the early hours of December 23, 2022, a domestic argument in Hueytown, Alabama, tragically ended the life of 38-year-old Marcus Cornelius Jackson. The Birmingham man suffered a fatal gunshot wound during the altercation, which occurred in the 1400 block of Hueytown Road. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Jackson was rushed to UAB Hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Responding officers from the Hueytown Police Department immediately began a homicide investigation. At the scene, they encountered 31-year-old Chantal Bahadursingh. She initially told investigators that she and Jackson had been at a party earlier in the evening. However, as the investigation progressed, inconsistencies began to appear between her statement and the evidence that was being collected by law enforcement.
The initial claims of a party preceding the incident gave way to the belief that the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute. As a result of the discrepancies in her account and the evidence gathered, Chantal Bahadursingh was taken into custody by the Hueytown Police Department. She was subsequently charged with murder in connection with the death of Marcus Cornelius Jackson.
