On May 5, 2022, the Chilton County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a suspicious incident in a wooded area east of Alabama Highway 145. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a hand-dug grave containing the partially decomposed body of 71-year-old Thomas Lee Creel, a resident of Jemison, Alabama. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences conducted an autopsy and determined the manner of death to be homicide.
