In the early morning hours of October 21, 2018, the life of 21-year-old Alex Nasson Postell, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Clanton, Alabama. Postell was discovered deceased near Ollie Park, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The Clanton Police Department received a 911 call at approximately 3:19 a.m. and responded to the scene where they found Postell's body.
The investigation that followed swiftly identified a person of interest, 25-year-old Jermink
Rashon Lykes. Law enforcement, including the Chilton County Sheriff's Office, proceeded to Lykes's residence on County Road 9. After initial attempts to make contact were unsuccessful, a negotiator was brought in to communicate with Lykes. He eventually surrendered to authorities without incident at around 7:44 a.m. and was taken into custody.
Investigators determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence. It was revealed that both Postell and Lykes had a personal connection to the same woman, who was reportedly present at the time of the shooting. This connection was considered a significant factor in the events that led to Postell's death. Lykes was subsequently charged with murder and held in the Chilton County Jail without bond.
In October 2022, Jermink Rashon Lykes stood trial for the death of Alex Nasson Postell. After a five-day trial, a jury found Lykes guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter, which is classified as a Class B felony in Alabama. Due to Lykes having prior felony convictions, his sentence was subject to enhancement under the Habitual Felony Offender Act. On January 12, 2023, a judge sentenced Lykes to 30 years in prison. He will be eligible for parole consideration after serving 15 years of his sentence.
