On February 14, 2022, in Oxford, Alabama, 26-year-old Alexander Kade Lanier of Greenwood, South Carolina, was involved in a fatal incident with law enforcement. The sequence of events began shortly after midnight when Lanier allegedly committed an armed carjacking in the parking lot of a Waffle House. An officer, who was nearby handling reports, witnessed the crime and initiated a pursuit.
