On December 14, 2021, Cortney Woods, 22, was fatally shot alongside his brother, Lorenzo Woods, 23, in a double homicide at a Shell gas station on East Lake Boulevard in Birmingham, Alabama. Police responded to reports of a shooting around 3:00 p.m., discovering Lorenzo injured with a gunshot wound to the face. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Cortney was found nearby, unresponsive and hidden in a grassy area, and was pronounced dead on the scene.
