On July 12, 2023, at approximately 8:30 a.m., 29-year-old Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton and his colleague, Jamal Jones, were performing routine maintenance at Fire Station 9 in the Norwood neighborhood when an unidentified assailant entered through an open bay door and opened fire.
