On September 4, 2021, 21-year-old Cornelius Ja'Shawn Hilliard was fatally shot inside the Superior for Men store at the Roebuck Marketplace shopping center in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. following an argument that escalated into gunfire, resulting in the deaths of Hilliard and 26-year-old Reginald Curtis Crawford Jr. Two other individuals sustained injuries during the shooting and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
