In the early morning hours of December 11, 2021, the city of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was unsettled by a burst of violence that claimed the life of 30-year-old Michael Brand Jr. A male resident of the Druid City, Brand was discovered by law enforcement and paramedics at the intersection of 24th Street and Greensboro Avenue, suffering from a critical gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment, his injuries proved to be fatal.
The shooting took place approximately one block from Club 205 on Greensboro Avenue, as a large crowd was exiting the nightclub around 3 a.m. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, a multi-agency task force, took charge of the investigation into what was marked as the 20th homicide in Tuscaloosa County for 2021. Investigators believe that numerous individuals who were present at the scene witnessed the events that led to Brand's death and have publicly appealed for anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
As of now, public records and news reports have not indicated that any arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, nor have any suspects been officially named. The investigation into the death of Michael Brand Jr. remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek answers and justice for the untimely death of the young man. His family laid him to rest following a graveside service on December 18, 2021.
