In a case described by authorities as domestic violence, 55-year-old Monica Long Gratton was killed in Birmingham, Alabama. Her death on December 3, 2020, was caused by blunt force trauma.
An investigation into her death led to the arrest of Anthony Shundale Moore, who was 50 years old at the time of the conviction. In October 2022, a Jefferson County jury found Moore guilty of killing Gratton.
He was scheduled for sentencing the following month.
Monica Long Gratton was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church in Wylam. Her funeral services were held on December 11, 2020, with her burial at George Washington Carver Cemetery. She was survived by her five daughters, as well as four sisters and four brothers.
