On a late summer evening in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of Christopher Ryan Fletcher, a 30-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On Sunday, August 30, 2020, authorities were called to the 3900 block of Todd Avenue Northwest after receiving a report of a person down.
Upon their arrival at approximately 8:05 p.m., West Precinct officers discovered Fletcher lying unresponsive in the roadway. He had sustained a gunshot wound which proved to be fatal.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel, along with the Jefferson County Coroner, pronounced him deceased at the scene.
In the days that followed, the Birmingham Police Department announced they were conducting a homicide investigation into Fletcher's death.
