On May 20, 2019, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Birmingham Police officers responded to a shooting at the intersection of 5th Avenue South and 1st Street South. Upon arrival, they discovered 20-year-old Davi Junior Escalunte' Ramirez unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
