On a summer evening in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the life of 18-year-old Elexis Lashelle McCool, a Black female, was tragically cut short on June 10, 2019. She had been driving with two teenage boys, aged 14 and 15, when the younger of the two began recklessly firing a gun out of the car window. A bullet pierced the driver's seat, striking and fatally wounding McCool. In the moments that followed, a grim sequence of events unfolded as the two teenagers moved her to the back seat of the vehicle.
