On October 23, 1984, Weld County Sheriff's deputies accompanied his son and son-in-law to his home located at Weld County Road 52 and Highway 85, near LaSalle.
Peering through a kitchen window, they made a grim discovery; Robert was lying on the floor.
Deputies forced their way into the residence and confirmed that Robert Moody, a white male, was deceased. An investigation determined he had died from a gunshot wound. The case was classified as a homicide, although authorities have not entirely ruled out the possibility of suicide. Investigators learned of turmoil within the family leading up to the discovery of his body.
