In the early morning hours of October 31, 2010, a dispute in a Milwaukee apartment ended in the tragic death of 22-year-old Hispanic female, Raisa Ivette Quiles. The incident unfolded shortly before 4 a.m. inside a residence in the 1200 block of W. National Ave. Events leading up to her death reportedly began after a financial transaction for sex between Quiles and a man named Uriel Pucheta-Crispin.
A neighbor informed police that he had provided Pucheta-Crispin with change for a $100
bill for this purpose. Later, the neighbor overheard a quarrel between Pucheta-Crispin and Quiles concerning a gun that Pucheta-Crispin accused her of taking. The argument escalated, and sometime after, Pucheta-Crispin knocked on the neighbor's door and confessed to killing Quiles. The neighbor then saw Quiles's body lying on a bed in the adjacent apartment. An autopsy by the Milwaukee County medical examiner's office would later confirm that the cause of death was strangulation.
The violence did not end with Quiles's death. Shortly after Pucheta-Crispin's confession to the neighbor, another man, Rafael Callazo, arrived at the apartment looking for Quiles. Callazo told authorities he and Quiles had been at a party together and had arranged to meet at the apartment. As soon as Callazo entered, Pucheta-Crispin began stabbing him in the back. Callazo survived the attack.
In the days following the incident, authorities filed charges against 33-year-old Uriel Pucheta-Crispin. He was charged with first-degree reckless homicide for the death of Raisa Ivette Quiles and attempted first-degree intentional homicide for the stabbing of Rafael Callazo. At the time the charges were filed, Pucheta-Crispin was not in police custody, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
