In the late morning of February 11, 2015, a violent encounter on the streets of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, forever altered the course of a young man's life. Ryan Rompre, a 24-year-old Caucasian male, was a passenger in a vehicle near the intersection of Sherman and Roosevelt. Around 11:00 a.m., another car pulled alongside, and without warning, gunfire erupted. The suspect, who remains unidentified, fired shots into the vehicle Rompre occupied, striking him and a 25-year-old female companion.
Both victims were rushed to the hospital in the chaotic aftermath. While the young woman's injuries were considered non-life-threatening, Rompre had sustained a catastrophic gunshot wound to his neck. The single bullet caused devastating damage, and despite medical efforts, his injuries proved to be insurmountable. After fighting for his life for six days, Ryan Rompre succumbed to his injuries on February 17, 2015.
In the immediate wake of the shooting, Milwaukee police began an intensive investigation. Initial statements from law enforcement suggested a belief that the shooting may have been drug-related. However, despite this preliminary theory, a suspect was not immediately identified or taken into custody. The investigation into the death of Ryan Rompre has since gone cold, leaving his family with unanswered questions and a case that remains unsolved. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the identity of the person or persons responsible for his death remains unknown to the public.
