A teen is shot while standing in the 1000 block of Atlantis Drive in Virginia Beach
In the summer of 1992, a violent act cut short the life of a young man in Virginia Beach. On the evening of Wednesday, August 19, 1992, 19-year-old Karl Alston was standing in the 1000 block of Atlantis Drive when he was fatally shot. Alston was a Black male with brown eyes and black hair, stood 5' 8' tall, and weighed 174 pounds.
Witnesses at the scene described two individuals believed to be involved in the shooting. One suspect, seen holding a gun, was a Black male approximately 5' 8' tall and weighing around 145 pounds with a medium build. He was reportedly wearing a red and blue polo shirt, baggy blue jeans, black and white tennis shoes, and a black baseball cap.
A second individual was also implicated as an accomplice. This person was described as a Black male, shorter than the first, at about 5' 5' with a thin build. His hairstyle was distinctive, with the sides cut short and dreadlocks on top. The two suspects were seen leaving the area in a tan, two-door Buick, possibly a Regal model with a tan vinyl top. The shorter male was reportedly driving the vehicle.
Despite the passage of time, the case of Karl Alston's murder remains unsolved, and it is now considered a cold case by the Virginia Beach Police Department. Law enforcement has not publicly identified any suspects by name, and no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Alston's death continues, with authorities still seeking information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case.
