In the quiet community of Oak Level in Henry County, Virginia, a grim discovery shattered the morning calm on August 15, 2002. Mary Hall Short, a 36-year-old White female, was found murdered in her home. Her husband, 50-year-old Michael Wayne Short, was also found deceased. Both had been shot in the head in what appeared to be an execution-style killing. Michael's body was discovered on a couch in the garage of their home, while Mary was found in her bedroom.
