In the late hours of March 10, 2010, the sound of gunshots pierced the night at the intersection of 27th Street and Nine Mile Road in the East End of Richmond, Virginia. Responding to the sound, police officers discovered 26-year-old Gavin Darius Pollard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where he fought for his life for nearly two weeks.
Known to his loved ones as 'Pac,' Gavin Pollard's fight ended on March 23, 2010, when he
succumbed to his injuries. A Black male from Richmond, his death was classified as a homicide, leaving his family and community mourning a life cut short. In the aftermath, investigators sought to piece together the events of that fatal night. Witnesses reported seeing a Black male, estimated to be between 5'4' and 5'6' and weighing around 140 pounds, in the area at the time of the shooting. The individual was reportedly wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and was last seen running north on 27th Street, in the direction of the Fairfield Court area.
Despite the initial leads and a description of a person of interest, no arrests have ever been made in connection with Gavin Pollard's murder. The case has since gone cold, but it remains an active investigation with the Richmond Police Department. His family has continued to seek justice and answers in the years that have passed, and law enforcement has periodically asked for the public's assistance, hoping that new information will emerge to bring closure to a case that has left a lasting scar on the community.
