In the spring of 2014, a violent act shattered the lives of two families in Richmond, Virginia. On the evening of April 23rd, police responded to a report of a shooting in the 2100 block of Mimosa Street. Arriving at the scene, they discovered a vehicle containing two individuals who had been shot multiple times. Inside was 33-year-old Ivan Tyree Bridges, a Black male, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alongside Bridges was Ebony Naomi Hurd, who was grievously wounded and rushed to a
nearby hospital, but she tragically succumbed to her injuries. The incident was quickly classified as a double homicide, launching an extensive investigation into the brutal killings. Bridges was a husband and a father to three children, and his sudden and violent death left his family and the community in shock.
In the years that have followed, the case has remained unsolved, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Ivan Bridges and Ebony Hurd. Investigators believe there may have been witnesses to the crime who have yet to come forward. Early in the investigation, authorities released a vague description of two potential suspects, described as two unidentified Black males, estimated to be between 20 and 25 years old and standing between 5'3' and 5'8' tall, who were seen in the area before the shooting occurred.
The Richmond Police Department, in conjunction with the FBI's Richmond Area Violent Enterprise Task Force, has continued to seek leads in the cold case. A substantial reward of up to $10,000 has been offered by the FBI for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Ivan Bridges and Ebony Hurd. Despite the passage of time, law enforcement and the families of the victims remain hopeful for a breakthrough that will bring justice for their loved ones.
