On a late summer day, August 24, 1968, a husband and wife, Elizabeth and Thomas Whittemore, were discovered deceased in their vehicle on Fire Hill Road in Pittsford, Vermont. The couple, who lived in the neighboring city of Rutland, had both been shot to death. Their deaths were quickly determined to be homicides.
