On August 26, 2016, 20-year-old Miguel Juarez, a Hispanic male, was seated in front of a store at 702 Glenburnie Drive in Houston, Texas. An argument ensued between Juarez and an unidentified male suspect, during which the suspect produced a firearm and shot Juarez. Emergency responders from the Houston Fire Department arrived promptly and transported Juarez to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following an extensive investigation, authorities identified
Johnny Smith, a 19-year-old Black male, as the primary suspect in the case. The evidence was presented to a Harris County grand jury, leading to a murder charge against Smith in March 2018. Law enforcement officials apprehended Smith without incident on July 23, 2018. He was subsequently charged with murder in the 263rd State District Court. A booking photo of Smith was released by the Houston Police Department.
