Loren Carness Ross, a former professional boxer known as "The Boss," was shot and killed on July 31, 2013, in Nashville, Tennessee. Ross was leaving the Last Time Around bar on Brick Church Pike just before 1 a.m. when the incident occurred. Witnesses reported hearing an argument followed by gunshots as Ross walked towards his vehicle. It is believed that the shooting was an attempted robbery, during which Ross fought back. He was shot multiple times and found deceased near his car.
