In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in Nashville, Tennessee, the life of 48-year-old Loren Carness Ross, a Black male, came to a violent and tragic end. On July 31, 2013, just after midnight, Ross left the Last Time Around bar on Brick Church Pike and headed towards his vehicle. As he made his way, he was approached by an unidentified man.
Witnesses later recounted hearing a brief but heated argument erupt between the two men, shattering the late-night quiet.
The verbal altercation quickly escalated to gunfire. Ross was shot multiple times and was found deceased near his car. The motive for the shooting is believed to have been a robbery that Ross may have resisted. During the incident, another man nearby who was assisting someone with car trouble was struck by shrapnel and sustained a minor injury.
The gunman fled the scene and has never been apprehended. Authorities described the suspect as a Black male with a thin build, estimated to be around 5'9' tall. At the time of the shooting, he was reportedly wearing a tan button-up shirt left open over a white t-shirt, blue or blue jean shorts, and a white hat.
In the years following the fatal shooting, the investigation into the murder of Loren Ross has remained open but has grown cold. No arrests have ever been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified beyond the initial description provided by witnesses. The case is now listed among the unsolved homicides being handled by the Nashville Police Department's Cold Case Unit, a lingering mystery awaiting a breakthrough that might finally bring justice for Loren Ross.
