On a late Saturday night in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 26-year-old Antreze Cortez Broadie-Franklin, a Black male known in the local music scene as Young Treze, was tragically cut short. On March 12, 2017, just before 10 p.m., a violent encounter unfolded that would leave a family grieving and a community searching for answers.
Broadie-Franklin was behind the wheel of a Dodge Magnum, with two other passengers, when they were ambushed at a corner store on Mendenhall Road. Two unidentified men, clad in black hoodies and blue jeans, unleashed a barrage of gunfire into the vehicle. In a desperate attempt to escape the relentless assault, Broadie-Franklin drove to a nearby McDonald's parking lot in the Hickory Hill neighborhood. It was there that he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other occupants of the car were also struck by bullets but survived the attack.
In the immediate aftermath, the Memphis Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. The surviving victims were unable to provide information on the direction the assailants fled. Broadie-Franklin's mother, Edith Broadie Mason, made a public plea for justice for her son, who was a father of five. She acknowledged that her son had faced challenges but was actively turning his life around.
Despite the ongoing investigation in the years that have followed, no arrests have been publicly announced in the murder of Antreze Broadie-Franklin. The case has grown cold, and the two suspects who concealed their identities behind hoodies have never been officially identified.
