A recent graduate of Benedict College with aspirations of a career in social services, she had married the love of her life, Arthur, and had just begun her first professional job. Described as a quiet, kind, and faithful church-goer, Beatrice's future seemed bright. However, this promising start was tragically cut short.
On the evening of March 12, 1972, her husband left their home on Harlem Street for his night shift at work around 11:00 pm. When he returned the following morning, March 13, he found the home empty. Beatrice was gone. The only items missing were her slippers, nightgown, glasses, and house keys, suggesting she was taken from her home unexpectedly.
Arthur Riley immediately contacted the authorities and reported his wife missing. For two weeks, her whereabouts remained a mystery. The search came to a grim end on March 26, 1972, when a hunter and his dog discovered Beatrice's body in a wooded area just 30 yards off of Atlas Way. An autopsy revealed that she had died from multiple blows to her head, face, and body.
