In the late summer of 2007, the life of Sterling Green, a 33-year-old African-American man from Chester, Pennsylvania, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter in Philadelphia. On the evening of Wednesday, September 5, 2007, Green was in the parking lot of the Residence Inn by Marriott, situated in the 4600 block of Island Avenue near the bustling Philadelphia International Airport. The night's ordinary calm was shattered at 8:57 p.m. by the sound of multiple gunshots.
