His sister recalled with a smile how he would always be pulling up his pants despite wearing a belt.

Wylie was a young father who adored his daughter, who was only 11 months old when he died. Their birthdays were just a day apart, a special connection he cherished. He was a doting father, ensuring his daughter had everything she needed and that their home was in order. Beyond his family, he was an aspiring entrepreneur who started a water ice business as a teenager and was involved in buying and selling cars, always determined to be his own boss. He was also an avid fan of basketball and football, enjoying games with his friends.
The life of Donte Wylie was cut short by what his family describes as senseless gun violence. In the years since his death, his murder remains unsolved, with no arrests made and no suspects publicly identified. To honor his memory and create a positive legacy, his sister established The Donte Wylie Foundation, also known as 'For the Love of Taylay,' in 2009. The foundation aims to provide a space for healing for survivors of violence and community members, and to work towards solutions to reduce gun violence. Through this work, his family ensures that his spirit and name will not be forgotten.
