In the early morning hours of September 26, 2009, tragedy struck a family in Pittsburgh's Northview Heights neighborhood. Five-year-old Ja-Lyon Johnson-Floyd, a Black male, was sleeping on the living room couch in his Penfort Street home when an unknown gunman entered and opened fire. A single bullet struck the young boy in the chest. He was rushed to Allegheny General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injury. At the time of the shooting, his mother, Shavar Johnson, was asleep upstairs.
