On the evening of Thursday, April 20, 2023, the life of Devon Liddell, a 26-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short in the Elliott neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Responding to a ShotSpotter alert just before 7 p.m., police discovered Liddell inside a home on the 900 block of Wilhelm Street. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics.
The initial investigation suggested that the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute.
Within a week of the shooting, authorities identified a suspect and took him into custody. On April 26, 2023, members of the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force, in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit, arrested 20-year-old Tymair Cox in Wilkinsburg. Investigators had determined that Cox was the individual responsible for Liddell's death. He was subsequently transported to the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.
Following his arrest, Tymair Cox faced a series of charges related to the death of Devon Liddell. These charges included criminal homicide, tampering with evidence, and a firearms violation. The case against him would proceed through the legal system to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting on that spring evening.
