Around 10:29 p.m., officers responded to reports of an individual down on the sidewalk. Upon their arrival, they found Augustad bleeding from the torso. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene shortly after their arrival. The cause of death was determined to be multiple stab wounds.
At the time of the incident, witnesses reported hearing an argument outside the apartment complex, but no eyewitnesses have been located, and no one has directly come forward with information regarding the assailant. Augustad was last seen standing in front of the apartment complex smoking a cigarette before the incident occurred.
